Breitling’s ultimate all-purpose sports watch is ready for anything. The Chronomat holds a pivotal place in the brand’s modern history. Introduced for Breitling’s centennial in 1984, at a time when quartz movements dominated, it marked a bold return to mechanically driven watches. It was born from a collaboration with the beloved Italian aerobatic squadron, the Frecce Tricolori. When the team asked for an analog timepiece that could withstand the intensity of a jet cockpit and still look stylish enough to be worn to formal events—Breitling developed the “Chronograph Frecce Tricolori.” It was the blueprint for the Chronomat to follow one year later.
The Chronomat B01 42 in 18 k red gold features an instantly recognizable bezel with its four raised rider tabs at the 15-minute marks. The dial is brown with contrasting black subdials and matched with the warm-colored, fully-integrated 18 k red-gold Rouleaux bracelet. True to the original, the Chronomat is powered by the in-house Breitling Manufacture Caliber 01. It is a tried and tested COSC-certified chronograph caliber with a 6 o’clock date and a 70-hour power reserve. The case is water resistant to 200 m, making it ready for every environment.
